What To Do With Your Pets When You Go Away On Holidays

Last updated 2 months ago

Bags packed? Accommodation booked? Sounds like you’re all ready to set out on a long, relaxing holiday. For animal lovers, however, finding an appropriate temporary home for your pets can be as important as getting to your destination yourself.

Leaving your pets with friends or family

Depending on what sort of pets you have, where you are going and how you are getting there, it may be appropriate to take them with you. If this is not the case, another option is to have a friend, family member or neighbour look after them. Remember that while some animals only require feeding and a little basic care, others such as dogs need human company and attention as well. In these cases, it’s worth ensuring that you leave your pets with someone who will be able to spend as much time with them as you do yourself.

Boarding for dogs and cats

For cats and dogs, another option is boarding. Boarding allows you to enjoy your holiday safe in the knowledge that your loved ones are in the hands of caring, trained professionals. Boarding is also particularly worthwhile if your pet has special dietary or medical needs. Remember though that they will be in close quarters with other pets and so should be up to date with flea control and well-groomed.
